1:15 - 2:15 PM              Technology: Considerations for Today and the Future

We will take a look at the current technology landscape and the evolving nature of various Broadband options, such as: DOCSIS, the various FTTH technologies, advancements in Copper with VDSL2, and G.FAST.  This is all driven by the growth in consumption by your customers. We will discuss how to best plan for that growth. We will possibly review some underlying IP / MPLS topics, and the evolving nature of WiFi trends.  It’s a lot to cover in an hour, but we will give it a college try!

The goal of this session is to capture trends in centralized networking, wide area wireless and custom metro Wifi networks, all impacting the micro ISP.  Local metro networks today are geared for quick setup, install and poised to capture more market share than traditional networks, very much like how cable video markets operate today.  Learning defensive tactics against large operator metros’ goals now becomes critical for any operator survival, as this session weaves through the maze of options and triggers collaboration and exchange of micro ideas.

Dr. Stahl is a pioneer in the field of information security, having entered the field in 1980. Earlier in his career he secured teleconferencing at the White House, databases inside Cheyenne Mountain and the communications network controlling our nuclear weapons arsenal.
Dr. Stahl excels at helping his clients develop and implement information security management strategies consistent with their unique information security responsibilities, their business realities and their cultural circumstances. He has that rare gift of being able to describe the complexities of information security in a way that makes sense to real-world non-technical business professionals.

This panel will present the most current equipment and techniques for utilizing fiber in backbones and to the unit, in the delivery of Internet and TV services in MDUs.  We will discuss the pros and cons of fiber, where the best applications are found, and the direction the product is moving. If you’ve been wondering what the realities of fiber use in the MDUs are, then this session will answer your questions.

This session will provide a thumbnail sketch of recent policy developments and pending issues at the Federal Communications Commission insofar as those issues that may affect the operations of member companies, including but not limited to the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on set-top box regulations, recent mergers and acquisitions, and the ever changing landscape of broadband from a regulatory viewpoint. Discover the impact of the increasing availability of a la carte programming via online platforms on traditional cable TV. Questions will be taken and addressed from a legal perspective.
